21. Watch Coldplay Live
The first song that I fell in love with was The Scientist. It was played in an episode of Criminal Minds (Season 1 Episode 16) — one of the TV series that I have started watching in 2010. And since then, it became my favorite song.
Coldplay songs are on point and and every song makes me tear up. Yeah, that’s how good their songs are for me.
So, since then, it has been one of my dreams to see them live — to see how hot Chris Martin is live, to be honest. 😜
There were rumors that Coldplay concert in Manila will be in December 2016. And I felt sad because it will really be impossible for me to see them since my vacation was scheduled already in May. The chances seeing them live? It was slim to none. 😢 It got postponed and the concert was officially announced that it will be in May 2017 — still, I wasn’t sure if I will be coming home at that month.
Come November 2016, Coldplay will be playing in the Philippines in 6 months and I was like, “When are they going to play here in UAE? Please let them perform in Dubai.”
And two days after that, it was announced that they will be performing in Abu Dhabi on the 31st of December!!! Yeah, New Year’s Eve!!! I booked my hotel in Abu Dhabi right away and decided to purchase the ticket as soon as it will come on sale. And with the help of my good friend, Yemi, I was able to get the ticket and all was set. 🙏🏻😱😍
I arrived in Abu Dhabi on December 31st and checked in to my hotel at 3 p.m. And picked up my friends at their hotel and went to Yas Island together. I was not in the mood before the concert because I had my “girl thing” that day and my phone charger cable wasn’t working and my phone had 50% battery left. And I had to save the battery so I can call Danicka after the concert.
We had to separate at the entrance so I went in to the concert venue alone. Upon entering the venue, they gave us the xyloband and a pin. The pre-show started at around 7:30 p.m. but Coldplay played not until 10:30 p.m. I stood there alone and hungry since I didn’t eat the whole day. And I was anxious to find a cable to charge my phone. And when a girl finally lent me her charger, my powerbank didn’t work. What a bummer!!!
My feet started to cramp and the venue became hot like I couldn’t breathe. I was wearing a long-sleeved top, a pair of pants, boots and a leather jacket because I thought it would be coooold since it’s winter! I would’ve worn a short dress or shorts if I only knew. At this point, I was starting to yawn — the first sign that I will faint any minute. HAHA!!! Dysmenorrhea, hunger, tired feet because of standing for like almost 5 hours, not enough phone battery (I couldn’t take decent close-up photos and videos), and feeling nauseous, finally, Coldplay started their show.
Everything that I went through was all worth it!!!
I cried at some point because it felt surreal. Like I couldn’t believe that they were performing in front of me. It was one magical night that I will never forget for the rest of my life. It was like the best farewell to my favorite year and the best way to welcome the new year which I have yet to experience.
Thank you, Coldplay for the amazing concert. You guys really are the BEST BAND IN THE WHOLE WORLD!!!
