Hi there! I’m GK, a mum, reader and writer
Welcome to my world of storytelling, books, reflection, and real-life moments. This is where I share the experiences, thoughts, and creative pieces that continue to shape my journey.
WHERE DO I START?
Well, my life has been a roller-coaster ride. Though many people may claim that they know me, I can only say that no one knows me better than myself. There is more than meets the eye — that’s what I want to tell people. I may seem like an outgoing person, but in reality, I am an introvert.
I also have my own fair share of flaws. Hey! Nobody’s perfect, right?
I can be very sweet, gentle and kind. I try to be nice to everyone but there’s always a limit as to how far I can be pushed.
I usually wear my heart on my sleeve. I am very attuned to my intuition. A chronic over thinker. I can’t read people’s minds, but I am a keen observant. I can easily sense when something is wrong. I am a daydreamer, and I often get lost in my thoughts.
I am the type who would rather bottle up my feelings and shutdown than sharing it. Writing for me is my way of expressing my feelings, my thoughts.
My life is never perfect. I am scarred and endured a lot of pain but in spite of it all, here I am, making the most of this borrowed life.
My journey wasn’t and is still not easy. There are times that I am happy and there are times that I am sad and that’s just normal. As long as we’re living, we have to find a reason to be happy. And I guess that’s what matters the most.
And this is my story.
Growing up, I have always had a passion for writing, but my life choices and circumstances when I was younger led me to a different path.
I usually write my sentiments on my blog, and only after seven years did my creative writing pieces get picked up and published in Thought Catalog, which garnered more than 30,000 engagements. At that moment, I realised it was time to pursue my passion, as I believed I had a future.
I started my freelance copywriting career by juggling a day job as an administrative officer in Dubai in 2017 until I decided to return to the Philippines for good in 2020 (well, I thought). I worked as a full-time freelance copywriter for three years, specialising in product descriptions, web copies, and listings for e-commerce websites in different niches.
I have always provided for my family, but I hope to finally return to that dream of becoming a renowned writer. As a first-time mother at thirty-five, I don’t see that as a hindrance but as a motivation to reach my life goals. I want to prove to myself and teach my son the importance of grit and determination since anything is possible if you work hard.
Obtaining over five years of experience in creative writing and copywriting helped me hone my craft. Yet, I believe that getting a formal education through Deakin University’s Master of Arts in Writing and Literature program will help me position myself to be competitive in this field. I eventually moved to Melbourne with my partner and son in February 2023 and graduated with my master’s degree in 2025.
Motivated by storytelling that resonates, I’m building toward a future in writing — with the dream of becoming a published author.
